The title of the video refers to an act within language in which no interpersonal communication takes place. Somniloquie means to talk in your sleep. The people concerned are not aware of this when they are awake. The parrot mentioned in the title is the only bird with the ability to imitate words and sentences. The compositions of strange and fragile objects that we see in the video could be described as still lifes, symbolizing absurd communication situations. These particular objects are waste that the artists found in the immediate vicinity of their studio. The materials are wood, wire, foam, plastic. It is very rare that a piece can be assigned to a specific purpose, such as a part of some sunglasses or a fragment of a hair band. The assemblages which appear to quote works by avant-garde artists, rotate on a green disc around their own axis. This mode of presentation imitates that of luxury products, whose importance is increased as a result. Such an increase in meaning thanks to the spin is only partially successful with the objects assembled by the artist group . Circonvolution also creates a feeling of vertigo. Small objects seem to dissolve optically. The spherical, which tries to seduce, also contributes to the confusion of the senses. The recently found objects, seized up by the artists before they could be destroyed, are difficult to ascertain or even to classify for the spectators. They can still acquire a new meaning, since one is quickly replaced by the other. The process of dissolution, agglutination and defilement seems to be the inevitable fate of the waste of civilization. "Sleep talking parrot" is like a swan song to civilization, a dance of death on garbage. The curators chose this work for the fair's electronic billboard because, on the one hand, the theme of "loneliness" is reflected in these strange objects. On the other hand, the assemblages contrast starkly with the beautiful and colourful products that are represented on the screen advertisements. The fact that the video uses methods from the advertising world, such as the turntable or the brightly coloured background, adds to the particular aspect of the assemblages. The title "Sleep talking parrot" linguistically represents a pleonasm or tautology, i. e. the same thing is said again with a significant expression, by which a semantic redundancy is created with duplication or unnecessary accumulation – or a chimera of the fantastic.

Le titre de la vidéo fait référence à un acte de langage dans lequel aucune communication interpersonnelle n'a lieu. "Somniloquie" signifie parler en dormant. Les personnes concernées n'en ont pas conscience en état d’éveil. Le perroquet mentionné dans le titre est le seul oiseau ayant le don d'imiter les mots et les phrases. Les compositions d’objets étranges et fragiles que l’on voit dans la vidéo pourraient être qualifiées de natures mortes, symbolisant ici des situations de communication absurdes. Ces objets particuliers sont des déchets que les artistes ont trouvés à proximité immédiate de leur atelier. Les matériaux sont le bois, le fil de fer, la mousse, le plastique. Il est très rare qu'une pièce puisse être assignée à un but spécifique, comme une paire de lunettes de soleil ou un fragment de bandeau de cheveux. Les assemblages qui ont l’air de citer des œuvres d’artistes d’avant-garde, tournent sur un disque vert autour de leur propre axe. Ce mode de présentation imite celui des produits de luxe, dont l'importance s'en trouve ainsi accrue. Une telle augmentation de sens, grâce au tournoiement, n'est que partiellement réussie avec les objets assemblés par le groupe d'artistes. La circonvolution crée aussi une sensation de vertige. Les petits objets semblent se dissoudre optiquement. Le sphérique, qui tente de séduire, contribue également à la confusion des sens. Les objets trouvés récemment, saisis par les artistes avant qu’ils ne soient détruits, sont difficiles à évaluer ou même à classer pour les spectateurs. Ils peuvent encore acquérir une nouvelle signification, puisque l'un est rapidement remplacé par l'autre. Le processus de dissolution, d’agglutination et de souillure semble être le sort inévitable des déchets de la civilisation. "La Somniloquie Du Perroquet" est comme un chant du cygne à la civilisation, une danse de la mort sur les ordures. Les curatrices ont choisi cette œuvre pour le tableau d'affichage électronique de la foire car, d'une part, le thème de la "solitude" est reflété dans ces objets étranges. D'autre part, les assemblages contrastent fortement avec les produits, beaux et colorés, qui sont représentés sur les publicités des écrans. Le fait que la vidéo utilise les méthodes du monde de la publicité, telles que le plateau tournant ou le fond de couleur vive, ajoute à l'aspect particulier des assemblages. Le titre "La Somniloquie Du Perroquet" représente linguistiquement un pléonasme ou une tautologie, c'est-à-dire que la même chose est dite à nouveau avec une expression significative, par laquelle une redondance sémantique est créée, avec une duplication ou une accumulation superflue – ou une chimère du fantastique.

Dieses Video ist Teil des videocity.bs-"Loneliness"-Zyklus. Dieser war vom 28.05. – 11.08.2019 von  Montag bis Freitag von 10 bis 13 Uhr am e-Board des Congress Center Basels aussen und zudem parallel innen auf dem Monitor in der Mediathek der Hochschule für Gestaltung und Kunst FHNW, 8. OG, Freilager-Platz 1, Basel-Münchenstein  (dort geschlossen 30.05. – 02.06.), zu sehen.

In der Mediathek lässt sich der Unterschied zur Präsentation im öffentlichen Raum studieren.  Es ist eine traditionelle Präsentationsweise mit Monitor, Kopfhörer und Sitzgelegenheiten innerhalb eines konzentrierten, ruhigen, stilvoll gestalteten Ambientes. Besucher können hier das videocity.bs-Experiment selbst nachvollziehen und auf die Unterschiede zur zeitgleichen Präsentation im öffentlichen Raum achtgeben: Welche  Bedeutungsverschiebungen ergeben sich in der Interpretaton des gleichen

Werkes, das einmal mit (sofern vorhanden), einmal ohne Ton, sei es innen oder aussen, im Rahmen von videocity vorgestellt wird.

Additionally to videocity "Loneliness" screening at the e-Board, Congress Center Basel outside, between the 28 of May 2019 until the 11 of August 2019 this video was shown from Monday till Friday 10:00–13:00 on the screen at the Mediathek, FHNW Academy of Art and Design, 8th floor, Freilager-Platz 1

Our perception in the media library of the Academy of Art and Design FHNW is quite different from that experienced in the city centre. Here the videos are presented with their original soundtracks (two-thirds of them have sound). It is a traditional presentation with a monitor, headset and seating within a concentrated, quiet, stylish ambience.

Here the visitors can fully comprehend the videocity.bs experiment itself: those who are interested can here study the difference between the presentation in the public space and pay heed to the shifts in meaning that arise in interpretations of the same work, be they with or without sound, be it indoors or outdoors. There are additionally a wealth of books. But the experiment in perception can only be experienced by yourself, on your own.
