Inland Archiv

Format: 4:3
Was Heimat sei, blieb damals wie heute unbeantwortet. Eigenes und Fremdes, Subjektivität und Objektivität, individuelle und kollektive Erfahrung, enzyklopädisches Bestreben und Zufälliges kreuzen sich in den Alltagsszenen und ergeben ein vielschichtiges, faszinierendes und ambivalentes Bild einer Schweiz im Umbruch.

--- Presentation notes EN:

This video was part of the video parcour through the city centre of Basel, which took place from 1.06. to 28.07.2013 from 9 to 22 o'clock. 16 Basel shops opened their shop windows for 16 video artists who live here. A selected overview of the video art of Basel and the Basel region from its beginnings in the late 1970s to the present day was offered. Thanks to art, a new view is offered of what is familiar in everyday life. Everyday life, in turn, is an unusual source of friction for the works, intensifies artistic statements or enables new approaches. The 16 videos show that Basel has the potential for transformation and creativity.

There were 16 locations: Basler Kantonalbank, Manor, Amavita Apotheke Stadthaus, Hotel Basel, erfolg, GGG Wegweiser, unternehmen mitte, BOSS Store Basel, Confiserie Bachmann, Thalia, KOST SPORT, Louis Vuitton, UBS, wohnbedarf, das Narrenschift and Bahnhof Apotheke Drogerie.

16 artists took part in the video parcour: Saskia Edens, Nives Widauer, Copa & Sordes (Birgit Krueger and Eric Schmutz), Erich Busslinger, Esther Hunziker, Barbara Naegelin, Claire Guerrier, Hildegard Spielhofer, Anna Winteler, Regula Hurter and Uri Urech, Edith Hänggi, Christoph Oertli, Pipilotti Rist, Muda Mathis/ Sus Zwick and Fränzi Madörin, Hagar Schmidhalter, Mia Bailey.

From 1998 to 2002 Erich Busslinger explored his home region with a video camera. His "Inland Archiv" was co-produced and broadcast by national Swiss television in 2003 as a ten-part series. This "anti-news program" avoids making judgments or comments. Then and now, the question as to what home is remains unanswered. The familiar and the strange, subjectivity and objectivity, individual and collective experience, encyclopedic ambitions and random occurrences cross paths in everyday scenes and create a fascinating, multi-layered and ambivalent picture of Switzerland in the process of upheaval.
