Can activist Museum Practice change the Institution?
by Prof. Dr. phil. Susan Kamel, Professor in Museum Studies, University of Applied Sciences (HTW), Berlin, Germany
Beyond the place-bound educational program the exhibition offers opportunities for a presence at new places and for links with new groups. Activities in public space such as the beach clean-ups and media appeals for the protection of the seas give the exhibition makers a new visibility, which often expands their established area of impact. As a result of this which groups are addressed and made aware of the project? Is there a reciprocal effect on the exhibition? Reports on experiences with various formats that venture beyond the exhibition space are presented and discussed.
