Der Designer nutzt Irritationen in Form, Oberfläche und Funktion, und so stellen seine Product Friends zeitgenössische Ansprüche, Standards und Produktionsweisen von Konsumgütern in Frage ohne die Nutzer*innen dabei aus den Augen zu verlieren. Simon Ertls Möbel und Gegenstände zelebrieren eine Gleichzeitigkeit störrischer und animierender Tendenzen im täglichen Gebrauch, womit das Zuhause um eine emotionale Komponente bereichert wird.

Standing against the expectations of their environment, the five characters show qualities beyond function and comfort. Although they vary in their appearance, they are connected in a deep understanding of each other in being different. The artefacts that Simon Ertl presents are real product friends!
The designer uses irritations in form, surface and function, and thus his Product Friends question contemporary demands, standards and production methods of consumer goods without losing sight of the users. Simon Ertl's furniture and objects celebrate a simultaneity of stubborn and animating tendencies in daily use, enriching the home with an emotional component.
