Anonymous (Composer)

Attribution
NOBLITT 1963, 144-50 and 1968 proposed an attribution to Johannes Martini. The same scholar renounced the attribution in EdM 83, 364.
Description

The cycle belongs to the “core” group of motetti missales, even though it is copied in a non-Milanese source. It consists of eight motets. All the texts derive (in a very incorrect form) from the same Passion hymn, notably used in the Short Office of the Cross, except for an interpolation in T254 Iugo est crucis conclavatus. The order of the hymn stanzas and the four “loco” rubrics (two of which have been added in a different hand) imply that the order of some motets is switched: M253 Crucifige clamitant and M254 Iugo est crucis conclavatus should come before M252 Iesus dominus expiravit
