Popular Admiration of Great Thieves - Allgemeine Bewunderung Grosser Diebe

Popular Admiration of Great Thieves is a solo dance and audio-video extravaganza. Coined a chamberdancevideoplay, it pays homage to thieves as masters of illicit trade, outstanding experts in dealing with time and space. Sometimes interwoven, then again confronting and/or alternating with each other, dance and media create a confusion of everyday awareness. The audience is asked to provide subtle and complex observation in this adventure of a special kind.
Played by dancer Niki Good, the audacious burglar tries to break into a villa under video surveillance. The object of desire, a legendary tulip bulb, puts her under its spell and entangles her in its own fantastic history, reaching from its Turkish origins to the 17th century Dutch tulipomania up to the present day. She doesn’t grasp the loot, the loot grasps her. Empty-handed, she finds herself stranded on a beach, the survivor of a shipwreck in the recollection of a priest. Once more, back in the garden of the villa, she gets tangled up in a conspiracy of dwarves whom the priest had failed to mention in his story. The only way out, a thrilling escape culminating in a spectacular jump again brings her closer to the desired object, the tulip bulb.

A video documentation from a performance of the piece at the Tanzhaus Wasserwerk has recently been transferred from beta cam to a digital format. The edited version will be available later this year. For now, I'm submitting only a pdf.
