It’s All Downhill from Here On

Between Art Basel and LISTE, you may come across Filip Gilissen's (*1980, lives in Brussels, Belgium) performer announcing a light sculpture in the urban space with golden pens and key rings. The gestures of the performer, who also wears a golden jacket, mixes the spheres of religion and marketing. His appearance infiltrates the urban space between the two art fairs. The golden souvenirs announce It's All Downhill From Here On to the public - a sentence that will shine for one night as a large-format light sculpture on a construction site crane above Basel's city center. However, the glamorous look of Gilissen's work is rather a contradictory affair. And perhaps the communication concept of the neighboring art fairs, where something extremely promising is presented at any moment, will be reversed - if only for one night.
