SECRETSHOW
(2018)

https://andreamarinelli.net

SECRETSHOW use audio and visual composition to open poetical windows into spaces and contexts. It is an artisan technologies performance where analogue and digital technologies are mixed and mirrored.
SECRETSHOW is a work on human faces through screens, cinema and TV.
SECRETSHOW is a recomposition of human voice into digital.

The visual part starts from photographs taken of TV screens and smartphones that expose the pixel, the compression. Marinelli sets in motion a huge archive of film photos. He photographs the screens in a sort of cinematic reportage. An exploration of cinema (from Antonioni, to Monicelli, to Dino Risi, to Truffaut to trash TV to porn etc.) through its last visible edge: the screen, the pixel. The photos are printed on glossy acetate and reassembled live through the overhead projectors, analog lamps with great expressive potential or reprojected with RaspberryPI. A continuous passage from analog and digital that brings the audio-visual performance back to the state of painting of the space.

The musical part is a Babel of vocal fragments from different cultures and languages mixed with live-electronics. Marinelli searches into different vocals expressions from melodies to language melodies, from aincient cultures to contemporary vocal path. Every time he arrives at the performance site he records people speaking with the local language or dialect. The same day reuses these samples creating identification, connections and mirror effect with the context. He uses original samples too with vocal music fragments from Pakistan, Venezuela, Canada, Czech Republic etc. Here's the Babel of languages that reflects the digital communication with multidirectional meaning, syntax and sounds. I use a bit of guitar too, that give back the artisan gestures of music that digital lost in most cases.
