Crests

I meet the theme of "rise and fall" with a sea of algae, opposing the mountains with the sea! I have been working with algae leaves as an art material for several years.
Algae are the oldest living creatures on earth. It is assumed that they have existed for over 3 billion years. In the history of development, microalgae are even regarded as the original and parent substance of all vegetation. Without algae, our planet would be a desert. Microalgae produce up to 90% of the oxygen on our planet and they can be found everywhere: in water and soil, in the air, in ice-cold glaciers, in boiling geysers and also in the human intestine. Ferdinand Hodler's paintings - and the sea - this encounter evokes many thoughts and images from the past as well as the present.

The mountains in their place, with their fascination, risks, life and death, proof of achievement,
beauty, silence, freedom.
In contrast, the sea, in its constant movement, with its dark depths, its noise, the smell of salt, storms, longing...
The mountains and the sea belong together. Everything is one world. With my performance, I would like to create a connection between these two elements for a few hours and let them work together for a while". (Text: Christine Bänninger)
