Anecdotes from the path to art

44 objects recall the magic of encounters along the way on Marinka Limat's journey between Kassel and Athens. They are the triggering moment of memories for the anecdotes in "Sparks. On foot to art".

The 44 everyday objects are all gifts that the artist received on her journey from Kassel to Athens in 2017. She now uses them to recall the encounters along the way. Each object becomes a pretext for a chapter of this long journey: a map recalls her encounter with a musician from Kosovo. With a lighter, she takes us to a beach in the Aegean, where she got it. A cotton flower embodies how the artist's path crossed with that of a migrant worker in the border region between Greece, Albania and Macedonia. The stories are short, the anecdotes bear witness to impressive moments and there is no chronology of events. Everything is about the senses. André Vladimir Heiz follows Marinka Limat's memories with his footnotes. His interventions form a second voice that occasionally contrasts and counteracts Limat's anecdotes. The book thus becomes a weaving of two voices, one way of reading in two tempos. As bilingualism is a matter of course for a woman from Fribourg, the text was also written in French, albeit not as a translation, but as a renewed intermingling of her memories. The pages follow each other in French and then in German, creating a multi-layered reality. Reading thus becomes a journey in and of itself.
