"BODIY" is a performance between sculpture, installation and choreography and deals with the phenomenology of body parts as potentially poetic material. What is this strange body shell that represents our temporary address here on earth? The performers transform themselves into surreal fantasy creatures and question the object-subject relationship between them and the audience in shimmering encounters. Body part after body part is examined for cultural connotations, artificially expanded and decontextualized. The performers' bodies are embedded in an aesthetic inspired by DIY (Do It Yourself) and object theater, which combines high and pop culture, or ritual and entertainment. In this imagery, individual levels of perception are deliberately contrasted in order to create a precarious tension through repetition, exaggeration and the use of objects, body paint, costumes and movement. The bodies oscillate in the subject-object dichotomy and constantly evade the temptation of rigid attribution. Ernestyna Orlowska (*1987 Szczecin/PL, lives in Bern/CH) is a performance artist and works at the interface of visual art and theater. She composes visual performances that deal with self-expression, pop culture and mysticism. She examines the effects of globalization and the Internet on identity, the perception of the body and everyday contradictions in the Western worldview. Using theatrical means, she stages surreal figures such as humanoid artificial intelligences, depressive fairy tale fairies and headless party priestesses and adopts methods from the film and music industry to deal with emotional trigger points.
