In the artistic research project "I was an actress", I explore the principles and aspects of acting using my own acting archive. I am looking for what I have left out and left behind in my artistic performance practice so far. In dialog with various artists and contexts, the project examines the field of tension between acting and performance art: What power is inherent in this relationship? What actions and activities come to light? How do they manifest themselves? How do they relate to the context? What attitude do I adopt? Exploring this force field is about questions of remembering and actualizing, transforming and acting. The first part took place at Kaskadenkondensator in Basel, a project space for contemporary art and performance. Beforehand, I gave seven performance artists each a theater costume that I had worn as an actress. I asked the artists to write "instructions" for me and the costume. In collaboration with the video artist Jürgen Salzmann, I realized the written instructions for the video camera without an audience in 2017. The exhibition situation in the Kaskadenkondensator 2018 reconstructed the setting described above as an installation with video, text and costume and formed the basis for the opening performance. The Kaskadenkondensator then became a temporary space for work, action and reflection for a week.
