Shown at: Münchner Kunstfilmfestival am SommernachtFilmFestival, Kommunales Kino Desi Nürnberg / Transit Basel-Nairs 1, Kulturzentrum Nairs, Scuol / Diploma exhibition MAS Cultural/Gender Studies, Güterbahnhof, Zurich (ill.) / Szenen aus dem Alltag, Kunstraum Lodypop and Kino Club Basel /Regionale 9 Kunsthaus Baselland, Muttenz 2008

Pascale Grau recreated the performance, originally conceived as a public performance, in the studio for the camera and a secondary audience. She embodied her two grandmothers in front of the video camera. The experiment of making the familiar visible in the foreign and the foreign in the familiar ends in a new story about her and her two grandmothers. Long shots and close-ups from different angles and the sound - an essayistic memoir - are edited according to cinematic aspects and broken up 'unfilmically' to create a mixture of film, theater and performance document. Precisely because the artistic performance creates a meta-commentary on culture and its theory and can be understood as a form of remembering, it is suitable for bringing the contingency of cultural phenomena, including those of medialization, to the fore again and again in a new/performative way. Media documents and documentations must be understood as material for further practices of description and remembrance.
