Cut-up
(2011)

https://www.marionritzmann.com

The colloquial term cut-up refers not only to notes and scraps of paper in general, but also to a writing technique used by various authors of the Beat Generation in which manuscripts are first cut up and then rearranged, creating an associative narrative structure.
In accordance with this method, the notes, which have been collected and stored over a long period of time, are cut in two and sewn into a jumble on the skirt of a dress made of fireproof fabric for the performance.
The performance begins by climbing onto the pedestal. After five minutes of quietly holding out, the text fragments are read from sheets of A4 paper at a rapid pace and the notes on the dress are set alight immediately afterwards. The flames create brown burn marks on the white, non-flammable fabric.
