Me as a sculpture
(2009)

https://www.marionritzmann.com

For the duration of an hour, the performer sits in a white exhibition plinth custom-made from MDF panels. Only her head and neck are visible, the rest of her body is hidden inside the plinth. The plinth is constructed with a precise neck cut-out to create the impression of a head sculpture placed on the plinth. The performance is integrated into the overall picture of the exhibition in such a way that it is not perceived as such at first glance, as the object character of the work is initially in the foreground. Visitors only notice the true life of the sculpture at second glance. The role of the body as an instrument of representation is greatly reduced in the performance, the actions and movements are reduced to a minimum. Only the occasional blinking of the eyes allows the supposed object to be recognized as a living subject.
