THE HÄKELOBJEK A long-term project by Regula Michell and Meret Wandeler Start: May 2004, duration: lifelong The artists Regula Michell and Meret Wandeler have been pursuing a long-term performative project since May 2004. Once a month, they work in pairs or together with guests on a pink crocheted object. The object is made from acrylic wool. Crocheting takes place every month in a different location in a public or private space. All participants in an activity work on the same piece. Furthermore, no formal or technical specifications are made (so-called freestyle crocheting). On request, the artists can be engaged by institutions, companies or private individuals for crochet events. Each action is photographed by people present on site (passers-by, spectators). The project runs for life: crocheting takes place once a month as long as both artists are alive and able to crochet. The lifelong work on the crocheted object raises the question of the relationship between action and result, goal and process. The long-term project creates a constantly growing social sculpture. Everyone who crochets the object is linked to each other through this activity. By working together, a separate, non-verbal communicative space is created for the duration of the project. The object forms a memory of time and work that can be seen and touched. The photo documentation on the website makes the passage of time visible: the object grows and moves, participants and interested parties can follow the progress of the project. Regula Michell and Meret Wandeler are involved in every action. In the event of illness, a stay abroad, etc., they can appoint a replacement. Each action is photographed by people present on site (passers-by, spectators). The location, date, duration, participants and special events are recorded on a log sheet. http://www.haekelobjekt.ch
