Performing Negotiations: Protocol
(2019-2020)

“Performing Negotiations was developed for A Performance Affair, Re:production, a juried art fair during the 2019 Brussels gallery weekend, which was “geared towards stimulating the acquisition of performance art while finding solutions for its development and sustainability”. As exhibiting artists were asked to provide sales protocols for their performances, I chose to make the protocol itself the performance, which was subsequently performed in 2020 at M54 in Basel, at a booth in “The Performance Show” during Art Rotterdam, online for the Swiss Art Awards and as a part of an acquisitions discussion during an atelier visit with Kunstkredit Basel-Stadt.

Working with the protocol as a form of script played an integral role in all of the performances, so that the various documents used throughout the performances form an essential part of the work itself.
