"LapStrap" plays with the idea of self-construction as a swarm, whereby a bundling of sound and language, hearing and thinking takes place in loops. "To lap" means to do laps and the solo conveys a specific space-time experience. Taken literally, the title alludes to the instrument worn on the hip: "Lapstrap" is an apron equipped with audio applications, allowing microphones, signal processor, playback, amplifier and loudspeakers to be worn and controlled directly on the body. The choice of topics, text and audio material depends on the situation. Interactions with the audience are also part of the performance.
"LapStrap" can take place as a stage version with a seated audience, as an intervention in an outdoor space or as part of an exhibition opening. The performance lasts around 17 - 25 minutes.
Steffi Weismann presented the work at four different locations in Switzerland between 2011 and 2018 (see PDF)
