I made this burka out of newspapers from different countries. I embroidered each page that enlightened words about women.
Each article was about women’s situations all around the world. Struggling with women’s rights, facing restriction to access to abortion, equal pay, access to education …….
The burka has been conceived with holes for my mouth, breasts, and hair, feminine symbols.
Before the beginning of the festival, I talked with some people from the audience and I invited them to say out loud if they wanted when I was performing a woman’s name, someone they admire, love, a great-grandmother, a friend, an artist, alive or dead (!) and/or someone they think she should deserve attention.
