Mind the Sound

The dialogical memory format MIND THE SOUND, developed by Janine Eisenächer and Steffi Weismann, is an artistic research method that simultaneously aims at reminiscent listening and the verbalization of listening experiences made in performances, as well as at making the physical dimension (the description) of experienced and self-performed sound-practical actions with things visible and tangible.
Two artists/curators are filmed sitting next to each other for 30 minutes and recalling performances in which sound-generating actions with objects played a role. In a free flow of narration and listening to each other, they describe the actions with objects and materials as well as the sounds that were created in the process. The narrative is often underlined with gestures.
This first edited collection contains excerpts from five dialogs recorded in February/March 2019 at Amerbachstudios Basel and Flutgraben Berlin. Performance artists from Switzerland and Germany are represented. In the second edition, which was recorded and exhibited in Berlin in fall 2019, mainly musicians took part. The collection is not yet complete and further recordings are planned until summer 2022. The evaluation and processing of the material is to be completed in the period 2022-2024 and will lead to a presentation and publication.
