The Fifty Songs were created at the Pauline Oliveros Foundation in Kingston, N.Y.. The encounter with the composer and accordionist Pauline Oliveros opened up new perspectives on what composing can be. The songs are written on 50 cards. The audience determines the order of the program by drawing cards. Singing, chanting, word fragments, shrill accents, purring accordion sounds, melody fragments, yodeling set pieces - this set speaks many musical languages. Fifty Songs is a game. The audience plays along: listening, eavesdropping, drawing cards.
