Pirouette

That spinning around one's own axis does not have to correspond at all with the usual conception of a graceful spin upon one's own heels, is amply demonstrated in Anina Schenker's video work entitled "pirouette". Thanks to the high speed imaging in her video film with a frequency of 1,000 pictures per second she reveals unexpected aspects in what we had considered to be familiar movements. Because of the film-loop tempo now involved in the spin, the grotesquely deformed facial expression is now mercilessly disclosed. The absurdity and slowness of the movements give us the opportunity to reflect upon the physical and psychological construction of our body and its simultaneous deconstruction. A series of self-referential moments is opened like a fan, so that the artist in the video loop spins around himself unceasingly.

Der Videoparcour fand vom 28.05 bis zum 29.06. 2014  zwischen 9 bis 24 Uhr statt. Nach erfolgreicher Pilotphase  2013 mit Videokünstler*innen  aus Basel werden dieses Jahr Videokünster*innen aus der ganzen Schweiz in Schaufenstern,  Lobbys und Eingangshallen von  Geschäften  und Kulturinstitutionen in der Basler Innenstadt gezeigt.  Die Videos wurden so ausgewählt, dass Bezüge zum Standort hergestellt werden: Inhaltlich kommentieren sie diesen und stellen visuelle Verbindungen her zur Umgebung.    

Es gab 11 Stadtionen:  Congress Center Basel, Banca Popolare di Sondrio (Suisse), Bank CIC, unternehmen mitte, Der Teufelhof Basel, Confiserie Bachmann, Sony Center, Pfauen Basel, Theater Basel, Basler Kantonalbank, Ingenodata/Güterstrasse 133. 

Folgende Künstler*innen nahmen am Videoparcour teil: collectif_fact, Ursula Palla, Beat Steuli, Eric Hattan, Anina Schenker, Chantal Romani, Ingeborg Lüscher, Alex Silber Company, Pipilotti Rist, Gabriella Gerosa, Daniel Künzler, Roman Menge, Peter Aerschmann, Haus am Gern, Sonja Feldmeier, Judith  Albert.

The video parcour took place from 28.05 to 29.06. 2014 between 9 and 24 o'clock. After a successful pilot phase in 2013 with video artists* from Basel, this year video artists* from all over Switzerland will be shown in shop windows, lobbies and entrance halls of shops and cultural institutions in Basel city centre.  The videos have been selected in such a way that references to the location are established: They comment on the content and create visual links to the surroundings.
